Chungcheongnam-do Province Holds Regional Environmental Education Council to Discuss Activation Plans with Cities and Counties

Chungcheongnam-do Province recently convened with stakeholders to discuss plans for activating the Chungnam Climate and Environment Education Center, scheduled to open this September, and promoting regional environmental education.

The province announced that it held the "2025 Regional Environmental Education Council" on the 27th at the main conference room of the Chungnam Climate and Environment Education Center in Cheongyang-gun. Approximately 50 participants attended, including officials from cities and counties, environmental education centers, and education office representatives.

The meeting focused on gathering suggestions and opinions regarding the activation of the Chungnam Climate and Environment Education Center and regional environmental education, as well as the 4th Comprehensive Environmental Education Plan (2026-2030), whose final draft is expected to be released in November.

The Chungnam Climate and Environment Education Center is a specialized environmental education institution designed to help provincial residents recognize the severity of the climate crisis and environmental disasters, and to learn and practice carbon-neutral lifestyles to achieve the 2045 carbon neutrality goal.

It will provide educational and experiential spaces for climate change-related education and carbon-neutral lifestyle practices for residents across all life stages.

Among the various proposals for activating the Chungnam Climate and Environment Education Center, participants unanimously agreed that a key aspect is for elementary, middle, and high school students to visit the center before graduation to receive systematic environmental education.

Through this, it is expected that all students in the province will receive education on local environmental conditions, climate crisis response, and carbon-neutral practices.

Discussions on the 4th Comprehensive Environmental Education Plan incorporated the voices of administrative officials, private sector representatives, and school practitioners regarding the future direction of environmental education.

Furthermore, a session was held to share best practices and difficulties, with presentations on the progress and plans of environmental education projects for this year by each of the 15 cities and counties and environmental education centers.

A provincial official stated, "Based on the Chungnam Climate and Environment Education Center, which is the nation's first residential climate and environment experiential education facility, we will do our best to provide environmental education across all life stages for all provincial residents."
