Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea - Individuals and business owners in Chungcheongnam-do struggling with debt, delinquency, and collections can find a lifeline through the Chungcheongnam-do Financial Welfare Counseling Center. The center offers free consultations on debt adjustment options, including personal rehabilitation, bankruptcy, credit recovery, and the Fresh Start Fund. Notably, debt collection activities can be immediately suspended upon application for debt adjustment following consultation.
The Chungnam Credit Guarantee Foundation (hereafter "Chungnam Shinbo") announced that over approximately 20 days starting from March 11th, the Chungcheongnam-do Financial Welfare Counseling Center provided around 40 debt adjustment consultations to financially vulnerable residents within the province.
Debt adjustment is a system designed to help debtors repay their obligations by modifying the terms based on their individual circumstances, such as income, debt amount, and dependents. Common debt adjustment programs include personal rehabilitation, personal bankruptcy, credit recovery, and the government-backed Fresh Start Fund. These programs can involve extending repayment periods, adjusting interest rates, or even reducing the principal amount owed.
The Chungcheongnam-do Financial Welfare Counseling Center (hereafter "the Center") operates to support Chungcheongnam-do residents and self-employed individuals facing difficulties due to excessive debt, delinquency, and collection efforts. It offers the Chungcheongnam-do Financial Welfare Support Project for debt adjustment and runs two branches: the Eastern Center in Cheonan and the Western Center in Naepo.
The Center provides tailored guidance on the most suitable debt adjustment program for residents and business owners in need. Counselors assist with the often complex application procedures and documentation, from initial preparation to final submission.
Since its opening on March 11th, the Center has assisted 40 clients in receiving debt adjustment consultations. These individuals are now undergoing debt adjustment procedures with the immediate cessation of collection activities.
Cho So-haeng, Chairman of Chungnam Shinbo, stated, "Due to the economic downturn, many Chungcheongnam-do residents and self-employed individuals are struggling with overdue debts and collections. While debt adjustment options are available, many are unaware of these programs or give up on applying due to a lack of information." He further encouraged those facing difficulties to "not struggle alone, but to seek financial welfare counseling and consulting from the Chungcheongnam-do Financial Welfare Counseling Center. Take courage to stop the collections and find a path to recovery through debt adjustment."
The Chungcheongnam-do Financial Welfare Counseling Center can be reached by phone at the Eastern Center (041-559-3931, 3932, 3933, 3934, serving Cheonan, Gongju, Asan, Nonsan, Gyeryong, Geumsan, and Buyeo) and the Western Center (041-530-3876, 3877, serving Boryeong, Seosan, Dangjin, Seocheon, Cheongyang, Hongseong, Yesan, and Taean).
