Daejeon, South Korea – Daejeon City is actively recruiting 20 'Safety and Health Guardians' to bolster its efforts in preventing industrial accidents within the region. Applications will be accepted until March 18, 2025.

The 'Safety and Health Guardians' program, which has been operational since 2023, aims to promote autonomous safety activities among workers and guide improvements in safety rules and facilities. These guardians will also provide on-site education to establish a robust safety culture in industrial settings.

Eligible candidates include those holding industrial safety and health-related certifications, individuals with over three years of experience in the field, and honorary industrial safety supervisors appointed by the Minister of Employment and Labor. Applicants must be residents of Daejeon Metropolitan City as of the announcement date.

Interested individuals can submit their applications in person at the Daejeon City Disaster Prevention Division, or via postal mail or email (ilnature@korea.kr). The selected guardians will operate in pairs from May to December, visiting industrial sites with high accident risks, such as small-scale construction sites, to ensure compliance with safety rules and conduct educational activities.

Daejeon City will conduct monthly joint inspections of high-risk construction sites with labor inspectors from the Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Administration, and strengthen inspections in collaboration with the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency for other industries. This enhanced collaboration with related organizations will facilitate a more systematic approach to accident prevention.

Yoo Se-jong, head of Daejeon City's Citizen Safety Office, emphasized the importance of preemptive risk assessment and improvement in preventing industrial accidents. He also highlighted the city's commitment to strengthening the 'Safety and Health Guardians' program to raise safety awareness among employers and workers.
