South Chungcheong Province unveiled tourism promotional videos on the 9th, featuring the unique characteristics of the Chungcheong-do dialect, in anticipation of the ‘2025-2026 Visit South Chungcheong Province Year.’
Filmed in Sangdam Village in Gwangcheon-eup, Hongseong County, at the foot of Mt. Oseo, the videos feature local residents directly introducing the province's tourist resources using the distinctive speech patterns of Chungcheong-do.
In the videos, the villagers humorously convey the diverse charms of the province's tourist attractions, such as the Nonsan Tapjeongho Suspension Bridge, Seosan Garorim Bay, Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress, Buyeo Gungnamji Pond, and Taean Padori Coastal Cave, as well as local festivals like the Dangjin Gijisi Juldarigi (Tug-of-War) Festival, Boryeong Mud Festival, Hongseong Global BBQ Festival, and Cheongyang Alps Village Ice Fountain Festival, using their relaxed and metaphorical Chungcheong-do dialect.
The promotional videos can be viewed on the province's official YouTube channels, ‘Chungnam TV (www.youtube.com/@topcnitv)’ and ‘Chungnam Tourism (www.youtube.com/@chungnamtour).’
A provincial official stated, “Dialect is a major tourism resource that differentiates a region from others, and comedians and broadcasters from Chungcheong-do are also beloved by the public through content that utilizes the dialect. We hope that these promotional videos using the Chungcheong-do dialect will convey the unique charm of South Chungcheong to many people and attract visitors.”
Meanwhile, the province plans to continuously promote the ‘Welcome U (어서와유)’ campaign during the ‘Visit South Chungcheong Province Year’ to ensure that visitors to the province experience the region's charm along with a friendly welcome.
The ‘Welcome U’ campaign is a regional tourism promotion support project that primarily involves lending promotional materials and providing promotional videos and guidebooks for events held by cities, counties, and various organizations.
