LG Uplus Appoints New CEO to Drive AI Transformation

SEOUL, South Korea – LG Uplus has appointed Hong Beom-sik, the current head of LG Corporation's management strategy division, as its new CEO, replacing Hwang Hyun-sik who has led the company since March 2021.
Hong, a seasoned global strategy expert, holds an MBA from the University of Southern California and a master's degree in business administration from Columbia University. Prior to joining LG in 2019, he held key positions at SK Telecom and Bain & Company Korea. As head of LG Corporation's management strategy division, Hong has been overseeing the group's overall management strategy, including identifying new growth drivers and pursuing aggressive mergers and acquisitions to strengthen the company's business competitiveness. Since 2022, he has also served as an outside director of LG Uplus and LG HelloVision, actively participating in major decision-making processes.
LG Uplus has been accelerating its expansion into new AI-based businesses while maintaining its core telecommunications business. The company said that Hong will focus on transforming LG Uplus into an "AX (AI transformation) company."

In addition to the CEO appointment, LG Uplus announced promotions for two executive vice presidents and seven managing directors. Lee Jae-won, currently head of the MX/Digital Transformation Group, who has led the steady growth of the mobile business, and Lee Cheol-hoon, currently head of the Communications Center, who has overseen the company's public relations and external cooperation, have been promoted to executive vice president.
