Province identifies 176 (tentative) tasks across natural disasters, social disasters, and common areas… “Total effort to protect citizens’ lives and property”

Chungcheongnam-do Province has announced 176 (tentative) tasks outlined in its ‘Strong Chungnam Safety Vision 2040,’ a plan designed to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

The province stated that it held an interim results report meeting on the development of the ‘Strong Chungnam Safety Vision 2040’ on the 25th at the provincial government office’s conference room. The meeting was attended by relevant officials from the province and the provincial Office of Education, and was presided over by Shin Dong-heon, head of the province’s Autonomous Safety Office.

The Safety Vision 2040, which accelerates the initially planned Safety Vision 2050 by 10 years, aims to realize the vision of ‘Safety created with citizens, Chungnam’s promise.’ It involves investing a total project cost of KRW 15.0155 trillion across four key strategies and 176 tasks.

The four key strategies are: △Creating a living environment through smart technology △Securing on-site crisis response capabilities △Establishing a practical disaster and safety support system △Strengthening citizen-led disaster resilience and establishing a safety culture.

The 176 tasks include 28 related to natural disasters, 78 related to social disasters and safety accidents, and 70 in common areas. Through these initiatives, the province aims to achieve the following goals by 2040: △30% reduction in human and property damage △Improvement of the regional safety index by 1-2 grades △20% increase in citizens’ perceived safety.

Notably, KRW 10.7248 trillion will be strategically invested in 40 key projects that combine advanced technology and citizen participation to build a new type of disaster response system, in addition to addressing natural disasters.

Key initiatives include KRW 4.1428 trillion for the improvement of disaster-prone areas, KRW 2.5414 trillion for supporting crop insurance premiums for stable agricultural production, KRW 721.3 billion for urban flood response projects, KRW 256 billion for foot-and-mouth disease prevention vaccine support, and KRW 22.4 billion for establishing a high-concentration fine dust response system.

In the short term, the province will focus on establishing a disaster management system that constantly identifies, predicts, and inspects climate, geographical, and industrial conditions, as well as risk factors, reflecting seasonal and topographical characteristics.

In the long term, the province plans to build a disaster and safety management system based on an advanced technology digital platform.

Representative projects include enhancing proactive disaster prediction and detection through the convergence of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, establishing a digital policy-making platform for real-time response support, and reorganizing the scientific and intelligent safety management system across all stages of disaster management.

Chungcheongnam-do Province plans to finalize the safety vision implementation plan through the ‘Strong Chungnam Safety Vision 2040 Declaration Ceremony’ in June.

Shin Dong-heon, head of the Autonomous Safety Office, stated, “This report meeting is a significant milestone in establishing the direction of Chungnam’s disaster management system. We will strive to create tangible results that citizens can feel through securing the execution capabilities of each department and reflecting the budget.”
