LG CNS Makes Its First Foray into the U.S. Public Market with Smart City Technology… Secures Successive Contracts in New York and Georgia

LG CNS has successfully entered the U.S. public market with its self-developed advanced smart city technology, signaling a green light for its global business expansion. The company has recently secured consecutive smart city-related projects in New York City, the heart of the U.S. economy, and the City of Hogansville in Georgia, demonstrating its growth potential in the North American market.
The most notable achievement is the contract signed with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) for the ‘Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVC) and Control System Construction Pilot Project.’ This is part of New York City’s actively 추진 중인 ‘Green Economy Action Plan,’ and its main content involves building advanced electric vehicle charging infrastructure at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) and establishing a system to efficiently operate and manage it.
Brooklyn Army Terminal is a key hub established by New York City to support the growth of startups with innovative technologies. LG CNS is participating in this project based on the ‘Digital Transformation (DX) Partnership MOU’ signed with New York City in November 2023. Beyond simply building electric vehicle charging stations, the company will also build and operate a charge/discharge control system capable of precisely monitoring and controlling real-time energy usage data. In particular, to maximize user convenience, it plans to provide various smart services through a smartphone application, such as checking charging status, reserving charging stations, and checking real-time availability information.
The core technology for this New York City project is LG CNS’s self-developed smart city platform, ‘Cityhub Building.’ This is a platform specialized in the integrated monitoring and control of facilities within various sites such as factories and buildings, based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology. In the future, LG CNS plans to further strengthen its cooperation with New York City in the smart city sector by expanding into the supply of high-performance Level 3 fast chargers and energy storage systems (ESS).
Meanwhile, LG CNS has also achieved significant results in Georgia. It has secured a contract with the City of Hogansville for the ‘Smart Pole and Control System Construction Project,’ establishing a bridgehead for entering the U.S. Southern market. Through this project, LG CNS will build smart poles and related infrastructure in downtown Hogansville and major park areas. Furthermore, it has a strategic plan to expand its business to neighboring cities such as LaGrange and West Point.
Smart poles are advanced urban infrastructure that integrates not only simple lighting functions but also traffic signal control, public Wi-Fi provision, AI-based intelligent CCTV for urban safety monitoring, and environmental sensing. This will contribute to efficiently managing traffic flow, providing a safe and convenient environment for citizens, and enhancing urban operational efficiency by collecting and analyzing various urban data. In addition to basic IoT functions, LG CNS plans to integrate various smart features into the smart poles, such as electric vehicle charging capabilities, digital signage, and emergency call buttons that can instantly connect to relevant institutions such as the police station in case of an emergency. The Georgia project will also be efficiently operated and managed through an integrated control system based on the ‘Cityhub Building’ platform.

This entry of LG CNS into the U.S. public market is not only an opportunity to showcase the excellence of Korea’s smart city technology to the world but is also expected to positively impact the entry of other domestic companies into the North American smart city market in the future. Attention is focused on whether LG CNS can expand its smart city business across the United States, using New York and Georgia as stepping stones.
