Australia-Japan Foundation Announces 2024-25 Grant Recipients, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA – March 23, 2025 – The Australian government has unveiled the 22 recipients of the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF) grants for the 2024-25 period, aimed at fostering deeper partnerships and enhancing engagement between Australia and Japan.
The AJF grants, designed to advance Australia's foreign and trade policy interests with Japan, will support a diverse range of projects spanning scientific collaboration, strategic policy discussions, sustainable development, and environmental initiatives.
"We are delighted to support these innovative projects that will strengthen the vital relationship between Australia and Japan," said a spokesperson from the Minister's office. "These grants reflect our commitment to fostering collaboration in areas of shared interest, ultimately benefiting both nations."
Among the notable recipients are:
Australian Antarctic Program Partnership (University of Tasmania): This initiative will facilitate new avenues for Japanese and Australian scientists to collaborate on crucial Antarctic and Southern Ocean research.
Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI): ASPI will host a workshop bringing together leading Pacific experts from Australia, Japan, and the Pacific region to address and enhance Pacific resilience against emerging security challenges.
University of Queensland: The university will advance higher education in sustainable construction through workshops, public lectures, and a presentation at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai.
Drift Consulting: This project will foster collaboration between Australian and Japanese experts to explore the use of Australian seaweed in livestock feed, aiming to reduce emissions.
