November 3, 2026 — Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is making significant strides in agricultural independence as its locally developed paprika variety, ‘Luna Red’, rapidly expands its footprint in domestic greenhouses.
According to the Jeonbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services, Luna Red has proven to match the productivity and quality of dominant imported varieties. This breakthrough has sparked a surge in local interest, with seed distribution skyrocketing to four times the volume recorded last year.
To celebrate these achievements and boost public recognition, the Provincial Agricultural Research and Extension Services, in partnership with the Korea Paprika Producers Association and Nongsan Co., Ltd., hosted a special promotional and sales event at the Provincial Office on November 3.
Agricultural officials noted that the success of Luna Red marks a major milestone for South Korea’s horticulture sector, reducing reliance on costly foreign seeds while delivering exceptional taste and quality directly to consumers.
