10% basic benefit provided, with an additional 3% to 5% for welfare beneficiaries and traditional markets

The City of Daejeon will continue to support a basic 10% Ontong Daejeon cashback benefit for all citizens in October and November.

In addition, a 3% bonus is added for welfare beneficiaries, users of traditional markets, shopping districts, and alley-type commercial districts, as well as users of young entrepreneur merchant stores. An additional 5% is provided when paying at Good Price Designated Stores, allowing users to receive up to 15% cashback.

Welfare beneficiaries can receive a total of 13% cashback, which includes the basic 10% plus a 3% addition. Eligible recipients include basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty households, disability pension recipients, legally recognized single-parent families, and persons of national merit. Approximately 9,000 existing registrants can receive the benefits without a separate application. New eligible applicants can apply through the Ontong Daejeon app, website, or their local neighborhood administrative welfare center.

A 3% addition for a total of 13% cashback is also available when making payments at Ontong Daejeon merchant stores located within traditional markets, shopping districts, and alley-type commercial districts. Based on data submitted by autonomous districts, the City of Daejeon has finalized an initial priority support list of 7,077 locations, and additional applications will be accepted for any omitted stores.

A 3% additional cashback is also applied at young entrepreneur merchant stores. When using Ontong Daejeon at a merchant store where the representative is between the ages of 19 and 39 as of the application date and the business has been open for less than a year, a 3% is added to the basic 10%. This additional cashback applies for one year from the registration date of support eligibility.

At Good Price Designated Stores, an additional 5% is added for a total of 15% cashback. The additional cashback for Good Price Designated Stores runs from September 1 to December 31 and may end early if the budget is depleted.

However, additional cashbacks cannot be combined. Even if a user qualifies for multiple additional support categories, only one additional rate (either 3% or 5%) will be applied per payment transaction based on the applicable criteria. For example, if a welfare beneficiary uses Ontong Daejeon at a merchant store within a traditional market, the 3% and 3% do not combine to equal 16%.

The biggest change starting in October is that a uniform 15% cashback will no longer be provided to all citizens.

In September, 15% cashback was provided to all citizens, but in October and November, the system will operate by providing a basic 10% to all citizens and an additional 3% to 5% only to targeted support groups.

Accordingly, general citizens will receive 10% cashback, while welfare beneficiaries, users of traditional markets, shopping districts, and alley-type commercial districts, and users of young entrepreneur merchant stores will receive 13%, and users of Good Price Designated Stores can receive up to 15% cashback.

The City of Daejeon plans to actively guide citizens so they can easily check the revised cashback details through the Ontong Daejeon app and website.

A Daejeon City official stated, “While September provided 15% cashback support to all citizens, starting in October we are maintaining the basic benefits while concentrating additional benefits on welfare beneficiaries and local commercial districts,” adding, “We hope that citizens will check if they are eligible for additional cashback and make active use of Ontong Daejeon.”

Meanwhile, the City of Daejeon provided a 15% cashback benefit to all citizens throughout the month of September, leading to an increase of about 19,000 Ontong Daejeon users and 430 merchant stores. Furthermore, the app recorded a daily average of 102,000 users, confirming high citizen interest and expectations for Ontong Daejeon.
