NTT DATA to Launch Asia's Largest Subsea Cable 'MIST' in June 2025, Driving India's Digital Economy

Japan-based digital business and technology services company NTT DATA has announced the launch of its subsea cable system 'MIST', connecting Malaysia, India, and Singapore, in June 2025.
Key Highlights:
MIST Cable:
Total length of 8,100 km, one of Asia's largest subsea cables with a transmission capacity of over 200 terabits per second (Tbps).
Directly connects Malaysia, India, Singapore, and Thailand.
NTT DATA's first cable system directly connecting to India, providing critical infrastructure for India's rapidly growing digital economy.
Connected to the Mumbai landing station in February 2023 and the Chennai landing station in May 2023.
Increased Investment in India:
NTT DATA has been investing in India for over 10 years and recently opened India's largest data center campus with a power capacity of over 500MW.
Approximately two-thirds of India's data centers are operated with renewable energy, with a goal of using 100% renewable energy in all data centers and operations by 2030.
Emphasizes safety, innovation, and sustainability through advanced infrastructure, underground tunnels, and cooling technology.
As the world's third and India's number one data center provider, NTT DATA plans to expand its global capacity from 1,500MW to over 2,000MW and add 400MW in India in the future.
The only data center service provider globally that has already deployed over 200MW of artificial intelligence (AI) load.
Expansion of Innovation Center:
Expansion of the Innovation Center in Bengaluru, India, to focus on AI, digital twin, and quantum computing projects.
Operates 11 global innovation centers in 11 countries worldwide, plans to manage global corporate projects by hiring professionals, and develop agent AI-based technology solutions in particular.
India's Importance in Global Strategy:
NTT DATA President and CEO Akira Shimada stated that India is a key part of the global strategy based on India's rapid economic and digital growth.
India is one of NTT DATA's top 10 revenue-generating markets, and plans to invest $59 billion in growth areas such as data centers and AI over the next five years from 2023 to 2027.
NTT DATA CEO Abhijit Dubey emphasized that the launch of the MIST cable is the latest milestone in accelerating India's digital future, connecting new markets, and strengthening the global digital highway supporting AI innovation.
He said that investing $3 billion in India's digital infrastructure over the past 10 years reflects confidence in India's outstanding talent and strong technology ecosystem, and aims to make India one of the top five markets within the next three years.
NTT DATA India CEO Avinash Joshi said that the Indian economy is currently in a growth phase as the best market and hub of innovation, talent, and opportunity.
He added that the company has grown through mergers and acquisitions and currently has 3,000 customers in India, and will continue to build on this momentum to drive change across key industries such as banking, manufacturing, and automotive.
He added that we are witnessing an era of evolving technology and are confident in our ability to strongly meet the demand for technology solutions, data centers, infrastructure management, and applications.
