Daejeon City has fully launched support measures to minimize damage to local exporting companies amidst the rapidly changing global trade environment, including the strengthening of high-tariff policies by the US Trump administration and the expansion of retaliatory tariffs by China.

Currently, corporate burdens are somewhat alleviated due to a 90-day mutual tariff suspension. However, in preparation for potential full-scale damage in the future, a cooperative system with relevant organizations such as the Korea Customs Service and KOTRA is being established, and the trends of the government and exporting companies are being constantly monitored.

To this end, the city has formed a ‘US Tariff Policy Response Task Force’ and is receiving real-time reports of tariff-related difficulties from local exporting companies through the online export consultation room of the Daejeon Business & Employment Agency (www.djtrade.or.kr) and the Daejeon Technopark Business Support Platform (www.djtp.or.kr).

If direct damage is confirmed, the city plans to urgently inject management stabilization funds to support the resolution of financial difficulties and intends to respond swiftly by holding on-site corporate consultations.

Furthermore, as mid- to long-term countermeasures, the city is promoting ▲support for establishing local US subsidiaries and joint ventures, ▲establishment of tailored market entry strategies for the North American market, and ▲comprehensive trade support projects to build an export foundation, including logistics, insurance, and certification.

Han Chi-heum, Head of the Planning and Coordination Office of Daejeon City, emphasized, "Changes in the tariff policies of the United States and China can significantly impact local exporting companies. We will minimize corporate damage through continuous on-site monitoring and immediate support, and we will spare no effort in supporting the strengthening of global competitiveness."
