Shenzhen, China – BYD, the world's largest electric vehicle maker, has announced that it will offer rewards to those who provide information about the spread of malicious rumors targeting the company.
According to a statement released on BYD's official social media account on February 21, the company plans to reward eight tipsters who have helped identify the sources and channels of misinformation.
The largest reward, worth 1 million yuan (approximately 200 million won), will be given to the tipster who provided the most valuable information. The remaining seven tipsters will receive rewards ranging from 10,000 yuan (approximately 2 million won) to 100,000 yuan (approximately 20 million won).
BYD plans to continue operating the reward program and may offer rewards of up to 5 million yuan (approximately 1 billion won) in the future. The company also assured that the identities of tipsters will be kept strictly confidential.
BYD has been running the reward program since 2023 in response to the increasing number of false accusations and distorted reports that have damaged the company's brand image.
"Malicious rumors and misinformation not only harm BYD's reputation but also disrupt the healthy development of the industry," said a company spokesperson. "We hope that this reward program will encourage more people to come forward with information and help us combat the spread of fake news."
BYD's move has been praised by industry experts and consumers alike. Many believe that it is a necessary step to protect the company's interests and maintain the integrity of the market.
