SEOUL – KG Mobility (KGM) has released details about the hybrid technology that will power its upcoming Torres SUV. The company announced that the Torres Hybrid has completed its environmental certification in Korea and will feature a newly developed hybrid system.
The Torres Hybrid's "Dual Tech Hybrid System" is a full hybrid system developed in partnership with BYD, a leading global electric vehicle company. The system features a dual-motor setup that KGM says maximizes the strengths of both electric and internal combustion engines, resulting in significantly improved real-world fuel economy.
The hybrid system's e-DHT (efficiency-Dual motor Hybrid Transmission) is a dual-motor transmission developed by KGM with P1 and P3 drive systems. It can operate in EV mode, HEV mode (with both parallel and series operation), and engine-only mode.
The e-DHT is designed for efficiency and weight reduction, with integrated motors, controllers, and transmissions. It optimizes fuel economy and power output based on driver input and driving conditions.
In urban driving, the Torres Hybrid can operate in EV mode up to 94% of the time, providing a quiet and smooth driving experience similar to an electric car. During high-speed driving, the engine and high-output drive motor work together to deliver powerful performance.
The Torres Hybrid is expected to be priced competitively in the compact and midsize SUV market, with an estimated price in the low 30 million won range. The official price and detailed specifications will be released in March, when the vehicle is launched.
With the addition of the hybrid model, the Torres lineup will now include gasoline, bi-fuel, electric, and hybrid options. KGM says this diverse powertrain lineup will allow customers to choose the best option for their needs and lifestyle.
A KGM representative said that the Torres Hybrid is a model that reflects customer needs for economic efficiency and SUV practicality. The company plans to expand its eco-friendly vehicle lineup with the launch of more electric vehicles in the future.
