Renault Korea announced on the 21st that its mid-sized SUV, the Grand Koleos, was named '2025 SUV of the Year' at the '2025 Korea Car of the Year (K-COTY)' awards ceremony hosted by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association (KAJA).
The Korea Automobile Journalists Association selects vehicles in a total of eight categories through a three-round evaluation of new cars released in Korea each year. The Grand Koleos won the 'SUV of the Year' award in the final evaluation held on the 6th at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Automobile Safety Research Institute (KATRI) in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
The Grand Koleos, which was selected as the SUV of the Year, was unveiled for the first time in the world at the '2024 Busan Mobility Show' and has since surpassed 10,000 units in cumulative sales in the shortest period among the brand's new cars. As of January, it has sold more than 24,000 units, recording strong performance.
The Grand Koleos E-Tech Hybrid boasts the best-in-class system output of 245 horsepower and an official combined fuel economy of 15.7km/l (based on 19" tires for the Techno trim) with its powerful dual motor system, delivering powerful yet efficient driving performance.
The Grand Koleos 2.0 gasoline turbo also boasts a powerful output of 211 horsepower/5000rpm and a maximum torque of 33.2kg·m/2000~4500rpm, and has an official combined fuel economy of 11.1km/l (based on 19" and 20" tire 2WD models), which is the best in its class.
In addition, the Grand Koleos has been well-received by domestic consumers for its high safety and spacious and comfortable interior space. Based on the longest wheelbase of 2820mm among competing models in the same class, it secures ample rear seat and knee space, and implements a comfortable and quiet interior space by applying advanced NVH reduction technology.
It is also characterized by enhancing safety by configuring 18% of the vehicle body with ultra-high-strength 'Hot Press Forming (HPF)' parts and mounting up to 31 state-of-the-art driving assistance functions (ADAS) and convenience functions.
In addition, the openR (Open-R) panoramic screen, which extends to the passenger seat for the first time in a Korean model, is installed, allowing passengers to use video content from various channels such as YouTube and Cinema OTT services through the Naver Whale browser even while driving.
Lim Seok-won, director of Renault Korea's Grand Koleos development project, who attended the awards ceremony, said, "The Grand Koleos is a vehicle completed under the Renault Group's core value of Human-First philosophy, with extensive global cooperation and the passion of domestic researchers." "We will continue to do our best in research to introduce technologies and cars that exceed customer expectations."
