Ulm, Germany – A century-old record is about to be broken. The Ulm Minster, renowned for its towering spire, is set to lose its title as the world's tallest church tower to the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.

The catalyst for this change is a 10-meter glass cross, currently under construction near Ulm by Josef Gartner GmbH. This architectural marvel, once installed atop the Sagrada Família, will elevate the Spanish church's height and secure its position as the world's tallest.

Jürgen Wax, CEO of Josef Gartner GmbH, expressed a lighthearted attitude towards this development, stating, "We take it with a certain wink and humor." He emphasized that no complaints have been received from Ulm residents.

The company, known for its contributions to iconic structures such as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Apple Park, has been tasked with constructing the glass cross. The project is part of the Sagrada Família's ongoing construction, which has been underway for over a century.

The glass cross, a feat of engineering and design, will be assembled on-site in Barcelona. Once completed, it will offer visitors a unique perspective of the city. The project is expected to be finished before the 100th anniversary of Antoni Gaudí's death in 2026.
