Bucheon City, South Korea – Bucheon City has once again demonstrated its commitment to transparent governance and the faithful execution of its public pledges, achieving the highest possible "SA" grade in the "2025 National Basic Local Government Heads' Public Commitment Implementation and Information Disclosure Evaluation." This marks the fourth consecutive year Bucheon has received the top rating since the inauguration of the 8th popularly elected administration.
The comprehensive evaluation, organized by the Korea Manifesto Center, assessed basic local governments nationwide across five key indicators: completion of public commitments, achievement of 2024 targets, citizen communication, web communication, and consistency. Scores were graded on a 100-point scale, resulting in six possible ratings: SA, A, B, C, D, and F. Bucheon City's consistent top-tier performance underscores its unwavering dedication to its citizens.
A significant factor in Bucheon's success is its proactive approach to transparent commitment management. The city's official website provides real-time updates on the progress of public pledges, inspection results, and any adjustments made. Furthermore, the operation of a Citizen Evaluation Committee for Public Commitments has been lauded for actively incorporating diverse public opinions into the process. A Bucheon City official stated, "This evaluation is a direct result of our transparent administrative operations, built upon continuous communication with our citizens. We will continue to enhance our commitment fulfillment rate through systematic management and robust citizen participation."
Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, Bucheon City has established and pursued a total of 154 public commitments. These include 98 pledges across 10 major sectors such as transportation, economy, culture, childcare, and education, as well as 56 commitments specific to the living areas within the Wonmi, Sosa, and Ojeong districts. Of these, 88 commitments have already been successfully completed. Notable achievements include the establishment of a webtoon convergence center, the implementation of a senior doctor system to activate smart senior citizen centers, the expansion of fire prevention support projects for alleyways and vulnerable households, and the establishment of a carbon-neutral roadmap. The remaining pledges are reportedly on track for timely execution.
