Seoul, South Korea – The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced today the selection of 1,983 units of specialized public rental housing across 11 regions in South Korea. This initiative aims to provide tailored housing solutions for specific demographics such as the elderly, youth, and newlywed couples.
Unlike traditional public housing, these specialized units offer more than just a place to live. They come equipped with a range of supplementary facilities including community centers, daycare centers, and libraries, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. Recognizing the growing demand for such housing, the government has pledged financial support through the Housing and Urban Guarantee Fund to facilitate construction.
A notable feature of this program is the introduction of a "locally-proposed specialized housing" category. This allows local governments to design housing units tailored to the specific needs of their communities, fostering a more bottom-up approach to urban development.
"We are excited to see the increasing interest from local governments in this program," said Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. "By providing tailored housing solutions and involving local communities in the design process, we aim to create more vibrant and inclusive neighborhoods."
The selected projects will be located in various regions, including Seoul, Gangwon Province, Gyeonggi Province, and Daejeon. To ensure the smooth implementation of these projects, the ministry will provide necessary support and actively promote the program through various channels.
