Cheonan City Offers Support for Early Scrapping of Old Diesel Vehicles, Targeting 1,160 Units

Cheonan City has announced that it will be accepting applications for its program supporting the early scrapping of old diesel vehicles until April 2nd. This initiative aims to reduce air pollution by encouraging the replacement of older, higher-emission vehicles with cleaner alternatives.
The city plans to support a total of 1,160 vehicles this year, including:
700 units of emission class 5 vehicles
400 units of emission class 4 diesel vehicles
60 units of forklifts or excavators
Eligibility criteria include:
Vehicles must be registered in Cheonan City as of the application date.
Vehicles must have been registered in the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Area or Cheonan City for at least six months.
Eligible vehicles are emission class 4 and 5 diesel vehicles.
Road construction machinery manufactured before August 31, 2009.
Forklifts or excavators manufactured before December 31, 2004.
The amount of subsidy provided varies depending on the vehicle type and weight, based on the vehicle valuation table calculated by the Korea Insurance Development Institute:
Emission class 5 vehicles (under 3.5 tons): Up to 3 million KRW
Emission class 5 vehicles (over 3.5 tons): Up to 40 million KRW
Emission class 4 diesel vehicles (under 3.5 tons): Up to 8 million KRW
Emission class 4 diesel vehicles (over 3.5 tons): Up to 100 million KRW
Forklifts and excavators: Up to 120 million KRW
Additional support is available for small business owners and low-income individuals, with an extra 1 million KRW provided within the upper limit. Emission class 5 vehicles under 3.5 tons that cannot be fitted with emission reduction devices may also receive an additional subsidy of up to 1 million KRW, depending on the vehicle type.
Applications can be submitted through the Motor Vehicle Emission Grade System website (https://www.mecar.or.kr/) or by mail with the required documents. Applications for early scrapping must be submitted to the Korea Association of Automobile Environment.
