Tongyeong, South Korea – In a bid to elevate the province's fishery industry, Gyeongnam, South Korea's second-largest seafood producer, has unveiled a new line of processed seafood products. The initiative, aimed at increasing the value of local seafood, was announced on December 29th.
Seven seafood processing companies in Tongyeong have developed 17 new ready-to-eat and home-style meal options, primarily featuring local catches such as oysters, scallops, and eel. This project, known as the "New Sprout Enterprise Leap Support" program, provides each participating company with up to 100 million won to develop high-value-added seafood products and expand market reach.
The new products, which include a variety of dishes from grilled eel to oyster-based pasta, were developed with the assistance of culinary experts, researchers, and retail professionals. The goal was to create products that appeal to modern consumers, especially younger generations, while adhering to current food trends. Notable contributors include The Born Korea Company, led by renowned chef Baek Jong-won, and Gyeongnam National University's Marine Industry Research Institute.
To ensure the success of these products, Gyeongnam Province plans to provide ongoing support for marketing and distribution in the coming year. This includes assistance with online sales, retail partnerships, and promotional campaigns.
"By transforming raw seafood into convenient, ready-to-eat meals, we are not only increasing the value of our local fishery but also making seafood more accessible to a wider range of consumers," said [Name], [Title] at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government.
