J. Augusto Saldívar, Paraguay – On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Supreme Court of Justice of Paraguay held the groundbreaking ceremony for the new courthouse to be built in the city of J. Augusto Saldívar. This event is considered a significant step forward in modernizing and improving access to judicial services in the Central Department.
The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by the presence of prominent figures, including Supreme Court Justices César Diesel, Eugenio Jiménez Rolón, and Gustavo Santander. Also in attendance were María Teresa González de Daniel, President of the Administrative Council of the Central Department, Senator Sergio Rojas, local judges, court officials, representatives from the bar association, and local authorities, all demonstrating high interest in the project.
Modern Facilities, Enhanced Services
The new courthouse will span a total area of 4,140 square meters across four floors. This modern facility will house the following courts:
Three Criminal Guarantee Courts: Tasked with protecting citizens' fundamental rights and ensuring fair trials.
One Criminal Court for Adolescents: Providing specialized judicial procedures for juvenile delinquency.
Two Courts for Children and Adolescents: Focusing on promoting the rights and welfare of children and adolescents.
One Labor Court: Resolving labor-related disputes and protecting workers' rights.
Two Civil and Commercial Courts: Responsible for resolving civil and commercial disputes.
One Criminal Tribunal: Conducting trials for serious crimes.
This expansion of facilities will provide a dignified environment not only for judges and court officials but, more importantly, for citizens utilizing judicial services. Furthermore, by decentralizing the Supreme Court's judicial services to the provinces, it is expected to significantly enhance public access to justice.
Part of Judicial Modernization Efforts
In his congratulatory remarks, Supreme Court Justice Eugenio Jiménez Rolón emphasized that this project is a crucial part of the Central Department's judicial system modernization and institutional capacity building process. He added, "The new courthouse is more than just a physical space; it demonstrates our commitment to providing more efficient and accessible judicial services."
The construction of the J. Augusto Saldívar courthouse, along with the recently inaugurated new courthouse in Capiatá and the next courthouse in Fernando de la Mora, which is progressing smoothly, is part of the Supreme Court of Justice's efforts to expand judicial infrastructure. These endeavors reflect the Supreme Court's firm commitment to providing fair, swift, and transparent judicial services throughout Paraguay.
The completion of the J. Augusto Saldívar courthouse is expected to significantly contribute to the realization of justice by providing more convenient and high-quality judicial services to the residents of the area. Moreover, it will serve as an important milestone in the overall development of Paraguay's judicial system.
