A high-profile real estate transaction has recently made headlines in South Korea, as a large luxury apartment in the prestigious Banpo district of Seoul was sold to a foreign national for a record-breaking 7.4 billion Korean won (approximately $5.6 million USD).
The apartment, located in the renowned Banpo Xi (Banpo Ja-i) complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul, boasts a floor area of 244 square meters (approximately 2,626 square feet). The buyer, identified as a 40-year-old Uzbek national, Mr. A, reportedly paid for the property in cash, completing the ownership transfer on February 28th without any mortgage registration. Mr. A's current address is listed as Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan.
This transaction marks a new high for apartments of this size in the Banpo Xi complex, exceeding the previous record by 300 million won. The Banpo Xi complex is a landmark residential area comprising 3,410 households, known for its high-end amenities and location in one of Seoul's most affluent neighborhoods. The location of the Banpo Xi complex is considered a prime location, with easy access to the Han River, parks, and other facilities. It is also known to be a place where many famous Korean entertainers live.
This sale has garnered significant attention due to the high price tag and the fact that the buyer is a foreign national. It also highlights the continued interest in South Korea's luxury real estate market, particularly in prime locations like Banpo.
