Manaus, Brazil – Santa Claus made a special journey this Christmas, braving the sweltering heat of the Amazon rainforest to deliver gifts to children in remote villages.
Organized by the Brazilian charity Amigos do Papai Noel, this annual tradition has brought holiday joy to Amazonian children for the past 26 years. This year, Santa traveled by boat down the Amazon River and then by canoe through swampy tributaries to reach the village of Catalao.
Over 600 children from surrounding villages gathered to receive presents from Santa, who donned his traditional red suit despite the stifling jungle heat. Volunteers helped unload Santa's cargo of toys, and even carried him ashore to keep his boots dry.
This year's delivery faced challenges due to unusually low water levels in the Amazon and Rio Negro rivers. Santa had to adjust his route to reach communities with sufficient water depth.
Despite the difficulties, Santa Claus and the volunteers were rewarded by the children's smiles and excitement.
