Secured 220 million KRW in national funding, attracting 5 outstanding performances in traditional music, drama, and dance

The Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center has been selected for the '2024 Performing Arts Regional Distribution Support Project' hosted by the Korea Arts Management Service and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, securing a total of 220 million KRW in national funding. Through this, the center will present five high-quality performances throughout the year.

The 'Performing Arts Regional Distribution Support Project' aims to resolve the imbalance in the performance market and allow regional areas to enjoy high-quality pure art productions. It selects outstanding works that possess both popular appeal and artistic merit.

The performances secured by the Korean Traditional Music Center this year encompass a diverse range of genres, including traditional music, drama, Yeonhui (traditional Korean performing arts), dance, and musical. The first performance will be Norumachi Arts Troupe's "Heoteun Sori," which will premiere on Friday, April 11th at 7:30 PM on the main stage of the Korean Traditional Music Center.

Following this, the lineup includes: ▲Play Yedo Theatre Company's "The Story of Fairy Sister" (May 2nd) ▲Traditional Performing Arts Workshop Eomma Gaengggaeng's "Kokdu, Around the World in 80 Days" (May 3rd) ▲Dance Art Rover Company's "Nyeong (寧), The Prince's Path" (June 7th) ▲Musical Island-Bound Butterfly's "Dandelion Flute" (October 31st). In total, five excellent performances will meet Daejeon citizens.

Since its establishment in 1993, Norumachi Arts Troupe has aimed to create stages that resonate with contemporary audiences while maintaining the framework of traditional music. They communicate and move audiences through their rich repertoire and exciting performances. The troupe was selected for the official showcase at the world's largest world music expo (WOMEX 14) and has received numerous awards, including the Korea Wave Awards' Traditional Culture Grand Prize (Korean Traditional Music Category), KBS Korean Traditional Music Awards' Performance Grand Prize, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Commendation for Culture and Arts.

This performance, "Heoteun Sori," reinterprets the negative meaning of 'reckless talk' as an expression of inspiration arising from the continuous experimentation and exploration of artists. It will showcase a unique charm of traditional music through the meeting of EDM sounds and traditional music.
