DJ Bae Chul-soo marked the 35th anniversary of his radio show, 'Bae Chul-soo's Music Camp' (MBC FM4U), on March 19th. He expressed his enduring affection for the program, stating, "I am living through days of heaven." Having started his career as a 30-year-old, Bae Chul-soo, now in his 70s, has solidified his position as a seasoned broadcaster.
At a press conference held at MBC's new building in Sangam-dong, Seoul, on March 25th, Bae Chul-soo reiterated, "The time I spend broadcasting in the studio is the happiest part of my day." He cherishes the two hours before each broadcast, arriving at the studio at 4 PM to prepare. "I am always grateful for the happiness of making a living doing what I love," he shared. He consistently advises his junior broadcasters to "never lie," emphasizing the importance of genuine communication with listeners in live broadcasts.
Special Gifts and Future Plans for the 35th Anniversary
To celebrate the 35th anniversary, 'Music Camp' plans to give DJ Bae Chul-soo a special vacation. Producer Nam Tae-jeong revealed, "Musicians like Rooftop Moonlight, Yoon Do-hyun, Yiruma, and Yoo Hee-yeol will fill in as DJs." Additionally, the show plans to produce a live broadcast from the 'Lollapalooza' festival in Chicago, USA, in the latter half of the year.
Bae Chul-soo also released a new album, 'Fly Again,' after 40 years, showcasing his musical talents once again. 1 He explained, "I wanted to re-record my old songs, which I found lacking in sound, before I got too old. This album is a gift to the listeners for the 35th anniversary of the show." However, he clarified that he has no plans to resume his music career.
"Mentally Young, Living Without Knowing the World"
After taking a week off due to health issues last year, Bae Chul-soo resolved to "keep my mind young even as my body ages." He expressed his determination to continue like his debut song, "Living Without Knowing the World," saying, "The listeners, MBC, and my body will decide how long I continue broadcasting."
DJ Bae Chul-soo's "days of heaven," marked by 35 years of unwavering passion and sincerity, are set to continue.
