Criticizes Double Standards Towards Israel at Jerusalem International Antisemitism Summit

Jerusalem, Israel - Former Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes strongly warned on the 27th at the Jerusalem International Antisemitism Summit that silence on antisemitism and anti-Israel hostility is akin to complicity. He urged the international community to awaken, pointing out that the unjust treatment of the Jewish people has historically led to greater evils.

Former President Cartes emphasized that the cause of Israel is not merely a matter of a nation but a matter of freedom and the right to self-determination. He mentioned that historically, the treatment of Jews has served as a "moral thermometer of history," stating, "There were moments in history when silence became not neutrality but complicity."

In particular, he strongly criticized double standards, such as denying the very existence of the State of Israel or denying its right to self-defense. He asserted that attempting to decide whether the only Jewish state can have its government in Jerusalem is "not diplomacy but antisemitism."

Former President Cartes expressed his pleasure in having moved the Paraguayan embassy to Jerusalem during his tenure. Although the embassy was later moved back, he added that the current Paraguayan government is sending signals that it could return the embassy to Israel's capital.

He emphasized that this summit is an opportunity to publicize the truth about antisemitism and reaffirm the commitment to stand against hatred towards the Jewish people.

Expresses Solidarity with Hamas-Held Hostages and Wishes for Peace in Israel

Along with his pleasure in attending the summit, former President Cartes conveyed his deep condolences to the hostages held by Hamas and wished for their safe return to their families.

He stated, "Paraguay feels not only your pain but also your hope," explaining that this hope is a wish for peace in Israel.

Former President Cartes promised that Israel would never be left alone "as long as there are leaders with conviction," and exclaimed, "Friendship between the people of Israel and Paraguay forever!"
