Melon, South Korea's largest music platform, revealed the results of a 20-year data analysis of user playlists on March 24th. The analysis, based on 102 million playlists, 12.84 million songs, and 8.15 billion cumulative song inclusions, highlighted the most popular artists and tracks over the past two decades.
Key Findings:
Top Korean Artist: IU topped the list with her songs featured in 16.97 million playlists and played 91.85 million times.
Runner-up: BTS followed closely, with their songs appearing in 9.5 million playlists and played 68.1 million times.
Most Popular Korean Song: Paul Kim's "Every Day, Every Moment" was the most added track, appearing in 3.928 million playlists. The song has consistently ranked in Melon's annual Top 100 chart for seven consecutive years since 2018.
Second Most Popular Korean Song: IU's "Through the Night" was added to 3.438 million playlists.
Third Most Popular Korean Song: BTS's "Spring Day" was included in 3.071 million playlists, holding the record for Melon's most streamed song and longest-charting track.
Top International Artists: Maroon 5 and Justin Bieber were the most popular international acts. Maroon 5 had the most song inclusions, while Justin Bieber had the most playlists featuring his music.
Most Popular International Song: Anne-Marie's "2002" was the most added international track, topping Melon's overseas annual chart for two consecutive years.
This data provides insight into the music consumption trends of Melon users and showcases the enduring popularity of artists like IU, BTS, Paul Kim, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, and Anne-Marie in the Korean music market.
