The South Korean electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing a significant boost, with domestic EV sales in the past month increasing 4.5 times compared to the same period last year. This surge is largely attributed to the government's early approval of EV subsidies. Notably, Hyundai and Kia have seen remarkable growth in their EV sales.
Key Points:
Sharp Increase in EV Sales:Domestic EV sales reached 10,457 units last month, a 4.5-fold increase from 2,340 units in February of the previous year.
Hyundai sold 5,346 EVs, and Kia sold 4,666 EVs, driving the sales growth.
Popular models include the Kia EV3 (2,257 units), Porter (1,532 units), IONIQ 5 (1,463 units), EV6 (1,100 units), and Casper Electric (1,061 units).
Impact of Early Subsidy Approval:The Ministry of Environment announced this year's EV subsidies on January 15th, more than a month earlier than last year's February 20th announcement.
The early subsidy approval has accelerated consumer purchase decisions.
The government's early approval of EV subsidies is analyzed to have significantly contributed to the revitalization of the domestic EV market.
