OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, is reportedly in talks to integrate its AI capabilities into Samsung devices, marking a potential shift in the competitive landscape of both the web browser and mobile markets.
According to a report by The Information, OpenAI is considering developing its own AI-powered web browser. The company has been in discussions with various US service platform operators, including Redfin, Eventbrite, and Condé Nast, to support this initiative. This move is seen as a direct challenge to Google's dominance in the web browser market, where Chrome currently holds a 66.7% global market share.
Concurrently, OpenAI is exploring a partnership with Samsung to integrate AI into Samsung devices. While specific details of this potential collaboration have not been disclosed, The Information suggests that it could mirror the agreement OpenAI recently reached with Apple. Apple has incorporated ChatGPT into its AI system, "Apple Intelligence," and it's expected that Samsung could integrate ChatGPT into its "Galaxy AI."
This strategic move by OpenAI is aimed at expanding its reach beyond the realm of language models and into the broader tech ecosystem. By partnering with major hardware manufacturers like Samsung, OpenAI can more effectively compete with tech giants like Google and Microsoft.
The alliance between OpenAI and Samsung could disrupt the long-standing relationship between Samsung and Google. While Samsung devices have traditionally relied heavily on Google's Android operating system, the integration of OpenAI's AI capabilities could provide Samsung with more flexibility and independence.
