GIZA, EGYPT – The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), poised to become one of the world's leading cultural institutions, has announced updated operating hours and a series of ticket discounts as it approaches its highly anticipated full-scale opening. Ahmed Ghoneim, the first CEO of the GEM Authority, unveiled the changes designed to enhance visitor accessibility and promote wider engagement with Egypt's rich heritage.
The museum will operate daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the summer and winter seasons, with extended hours until 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays. During the holy month of Ramadan, operating hours will be adjusted to 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily. Ghoneim explained that these adjusted hours cater to various schedules, particularly during peak tourist seasons and special occasions.
In addition to the revised schedule, the GEM's Board of Directors has approved a range of ticket exemptions and discounts. These initiatives aim to encourage greater public access to the museum's impressive exhibitions and state-of-the-art facilities. Details regarding the specific discounts and exemptions will be released soon.
These enhancements reflect the museum's ongoing commitment to providing an exceptional visitor experience. Overlooking the iconic Giza Pyramids, the GEM is the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization: ancient Egypt. It houses an unparalleled collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including the complete treasures of King Tutankhamun.
The GEM is currently in its trial operation phase, offering visitors access to key areas, including the gardens, the hanging obelisk, the atrium, the grand staircase, and 12 main exhibition halls. The commercial area, featuring various cafes and restaurants, is also open. A full-scale opening is expected in the near future, solidifying the GEM's position as a premier destination for cultural tourism.
