ASUNCION, Paraguay – Paraguay's First Lady, Leticia Ocampos, presided over Paraguay's National Day ceremony at the Osaka World Expo, delivering a moving tribute to the "strong, brave, and resilient" women of Paraguay.

President Santiago Peña lauded the First Lady's efforts via his social media, stating, "Today, the heart of Paraguay shone in Japan. We thank @LetiOcamposP for such a proud and delicate tribute to our Kuña Guapa (hardworking women) at Expo Osaka 2025."

During Paraguay's National Day celebration at the Expo last Monday, the First Lady underscored the decisive role played by Paraguayan women throughout their nation's history. The central message of the event focused on "The Power of Paraguayan Women," acknowledging both their historical and contemporary roles, from their struggle for visibility and rights to their cultural and social influence.

"We want the world to know who Paraguayan women are, what her legacy has been in the most difficult moments of our history, and how today she continues to lead transforming processes," the First Lady affirmed.

The epic axis of Kuña Guapa drew inspiration from Las Residentas. These were the women who left their homes during the Triple Alliance War (1864-1870) to accompany the Paraguayan army, assisting with medical and agricultural work, and even fighting on the front lines. Their heroic actions were essential during the nation's reconstruction following this devastating war, which is estimated to have killed nearly 90% of Paraguay's male population.
