DOHA, Qatar – In a significant diplomatic push, foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates convened in Doha on Wednesday, joined by PLO Secretary-General Hussein Al-Sheikh and the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, to address the escalating crisis in Gaza and coordinate a comprehensive Arab response.

The primary focus of the meeting was the implementation of the Arab-Islamic early recovery and reconstruction plan for Gaza, approved at the recent Arab Summit in Cairo. The ambitious plan, estimated to cost approximately $53 billion and span five years, aims to rebuild Gaza's shattered infrastructure and provide essential support to its displaced population.

"The urgency of the situation in Gaza demands a unified and coordinated effort," stated a spokesperson from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. "Our discussions centered on securing the necessary funding and establishing effective mechanisms for the reconstruction process, ensuring that the people of Gaza can rebuild their lives."

Discussions with the U.S. Special Envoy centered on aligning international efforts with the Arab plan, ensuring a cohesive and effective reconstruction strategy. The ministers and the US envoy agreed to continue close consultations to make the reconstruction plan a reality.

A central demand from the Arab diplomats was an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. They emphasized that a sustainable peace can only be achieved through a just and comprehensive resolution based on the two-state solution, fulfilling the Palestinian people's aspirations for freedom and independence.

The meeting also addressed the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 48,500 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed since the start of the Israeli offensive in October 2023. This conflict has also lead to the international criminal court issuing arrest warrents for Benjamin Netanyahu, and Yoav Gallant. As well as Genocide charges being filed at the international court of justice.

The Arab nations also reiterated their rejection of controversial proposals, such as the plan by former US President Donald Trump, which they condemned as amounting to ethnic cleansing.

"The international community must uphold its responsibility to protect civilian lives and ensure accountability for violations of international law," stated a source close to the PLO.

The Arab nations reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue and coordination with regional and international partners to achieve a lasting peace and stability in the region.
