[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  As Typhoon 'Kong-rey', which occurred in the North Pacific, is heading north, there is talk of the possibility that the 'November Typhoon' will land on the Korean Peninsula for the first time in 47 years.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 28th, Tropical Depression No. 46 developed into Typhoon No. 21 'Kong-rey' in the sea about 210km southeast of Guam on the morning of the 25th.

Typhoon Kongrey is currently passing through the sea about 860km east-northeast of Manila, Philippines, with a maximum wind speed of 29m per second and a central pressure of 980hPa (hectopascal).

The current size is medium-sized and has ‘medium’ strength. As it moves north, it will grow to a 'strong' level around 9 a.m. tomorrow (29th). It has the power to cause a train to derail.

It is predicted that the intensity will reach 'very strong' around 9 a.m. on the 31st and reach the sea 60km south-southeast of Taipei, Taiwan. It is strong enough to send people and large stones flying.

The Meteorological Administration predicts that the typhoon will weaken to a tropical depression around 330 km south-southeast of Shanghai, China, around 3 p.m. on the 2nd of next month. However, as the typhoon's path and strength are fluid, it is closely monitoring the situation for the possibility of impact on the Korean Peninsula.

Since 1977, no typhoon has landed or affected Korea, including Jeju, in November. However, since fall has been delayed this year due to the heat wave and tropical nights, the possibility that Typhoon Kong-rey will have a direct or indirect impact on Korea cannot be ruled out.

Meanwhile, Typhoon 'Kong Lei' is the name of a mountain submitted by Cambodia.
