CHEONAN, SOUTH KOREA – Cheonan City has taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety and quality of its agricultural produce with the grand opening of its dedicated Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Laboratory on March 25th. The state-of-the-art facility, located within the Cheonan Agricultural Technology Center in Mokcheon-eup, spans 456 square meters and will provide crucial analysis services free of charge to local farmers.

The newly established laboratory will offer comprehensive testing for pesticide residues in both agricultural products and soil, as well as analysis of heavy metal content in soil. This initiative aims to proactively prevent the circulation of substandard produce and safeguard public health. Farmers can avail themselves of these services during the lab's operating hours, which are Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM. The analysis process is expected to take approximately two weeks from the submission date.

The opening ceremony was a well-attended event, with Cheonan Mayor Park Sang-don and around 100 agricultural representatives present to mark this important milestone. During the ceremony, the Cheonan Agricultural Technology Center, led by Director Choi Jong-yoon, highlighted the significance of bringing agricultural product safety inspections under direct management. This transition is anticipated to significantly reduce the risk of non-compliant products reaching the market, thereby enhancing consumer trust in Cheonan's agricultural sector.

Furthermore, the provision of free testing services is expected to alleviate financial burdens on local farmers, contributing to reduced operational costs and increased profitability.

Looking ahead, a city official emphasized the strategic role of the new laboratory in supporting the upcoming Cheonan Food Certification System. By providing robust safety testing for products seeking certification, the initiative is poised to elevate the overall image and reputation of agricultural products originating from Cheonan. This move underscores the city's commitment to producing safe, high-quality food and fostering a thriving agricultural community. The establishment of the Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Laboratory marks a significant investment in the well-being of both consumers and producers in Cheonan.
