Guatemala City residents should prepare for a day of potential showers and strong winds, according to the latest weather forecast. Monday's outlook indicates a 60% chance of rain throughout the day, with cloud cover expected to reach 63%. While the likelihood of precipitation decreases significantly at night, dropping to a mere 6%, wind gusts are predicted to remain considerable.
Temperature and UV Concerns
The temperature is anticipated to range from a high of 26°C (79°F) to a low of 15°C (59°F). Of particular note is the extremely high UV index, projected to reach level 10. Residents are strongly advised to take precautions against sun exposure, including wearing protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Regional Climate Variations
Guatemala's location within the tropics results in a predominantly tropical climate. However, the country's diverse topography leads to significant regional variations. In the lowlands and coastal areas, hot and humid tropical conditions prevail. In contrast, the highland regions experience a more temperate climate, characterized by cooler temperatures and drier conditions.
Volcano Activity
It is important to note, that Guatemala also has active volcanos. The Volcano de Fuego has had recent activity. Therefore, residents should stay up to date on any volcanic activity warnings.
Seasonal Patterns
The weather patterns in Guatemala are distinctly seasonal. The rainy season, spanning from May to October, brings frequent and heavy rainfall, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. The dry season, from November to April, is characterized by sunny skies and lower levels of precipitation.
