Debrecen, Hungary – BMW’s new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, is progressing according to plan, with series production scheduled to commence next year. Hans-Peter Kemser, the plant’s CEO, confirmed that there have been no changes to the original capacity plans or the models to be produced.
The plant has already initiated pre-series production, a crucial step before full-scale manufacturing begins. The first test vehicles of the all-electric Neue Klasse X model rolled off the assembly line in November 2024, marking a significant milestone.
Kemser reiterated the plant’s maximum annual capacity of 150,000 units. However, production will ramp up gradually, as is standard practice with new plants and models.
The BMW Group’s substantial investment of approximately €1.9 billion in the Debrecen facility will encompass a press shop, body production unit, paint shop, and assembly hall, as well as a battery assembly plant. This strategic move reinforces BMW’s commitment to electric mobility and positions Hungary as a key player in the automotive industry.
