Tarragona, Spain – Kia Corporation and Samsung Electronics have announced a strategic partnership to integrate Samsung’s SmartThings Pro, an AI-powered B2B IoT solution, into Kia’s upcoming purpose-built vehicle (PBV), the PV5. This collaboration aims to transform the daily operations of self-employed individuals and small business owners by offering a seamless, connected, and automated work environment.
The partnership, formalized at an event in Tarragona, Spain, will enable PV5 drivers to control and monitor a wide range of Samsung smart home appliances and devices directly from their vehicle’s infotainment system or a Samsung tablet. This integration will create customized operational modes, streamlining various business tasks.
Key Features and Benefits:
SmartThings Pro Integration:Drivers can remotely manage store appliances like air conditioners, ovens, and lighting, optimizing energy consumption and preparing the workspace before arrival.
Customizable modes, such as "material purchase mode," automate vehicle settings like refrigeration for transporting goods.
Enhanced Efficiency and Convenience:The system anticipates and adapts to the driver's business routine, reducing manual tasks and improving productivity.
Real-time monitoring and control of connected devices enhance operational oversight.
Targeting the Growing LCV Market:Kia's PV5, built on the dedicated E-GMP.S platform, marks the company's entry into the expanding light commercial vehicle (LCV) market, projected to reach 4 million units by 2030.
Kia aims to capture a significant share of the electric LCV segment, which constitutes approximately 30% of the total market.
PV5 Model Variants:The PV5 will be available in 11 different configurations, including passenger and cargo versions, as well as specialized models like the light camper.
The passenger variant boasts a range of up to 400 kilometers on a single charge, catering to diverse business needs.
Future Outlook:
The commercialization of this integrated solution is expected by mid-2025. Kia and Samsung Electronics plan to further expand their collaboration, exploring additional applications of IoT and AI technologies to enhance the PBV experience.
This partnership underscores the growing convergence of automotive and technology industries, paving the way for innovative mobility solutions that cater to the evolving needs of businesses and consumers.
