SINGAPORE - England's Richard Mansell, 29, clinched his maiden DP World Tour title at the Porsche Singapore Classic, overcoming a one-shot deficit in the final round of the rain-shortened 54-hole tournament.
Mansell's decisive surge began on the 4th hole, where he strung together five consecutive birdies, propelling him to the top of the leaderboard. He maintained his composure, holding off a strong challenge from Japan's Keita Nakajima to secure a one-shot victory at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club.
The Englishman's final round of 6-under-par 66, highlighted by a remarkable two-putt birdie from over 100 feet on the 18th hole, sealed his triumph with a 16-under-par total.
"Today, I focused solely on myself, maintaining patience and disregarding external pressures," Mansell stated. "The lessons learned from previous near-victories proved invaluable. This win holds profound significance."
Mansell reflected on past setbacks, admitting, "In 2022, I came close but fell short. Hindsight suggests I should have adhered to my established routine, which would have expedited this success."
He acknowledged a period of struggle, saying, "I attempted alterations and resorted to blaming others for my shortcomings. I lost my passion and strayed from my roots. The past six months have demanded immense dedication. My wife, Ellie, and numerous others provided unwavering support, believing in me when my self-belief wavered."
Nakajima's impressive 65, featuring six birdies, earned him solo second place, one stroke ahead of Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin and France's Adrien Saddier, who both carded 68s. Notably, McKibbin and Saddier were making their DP Tour debuts following their transition to LIV Golf.
