ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – Hirona S.A. - Rio Sur Transport and Logistics, a cornerstone of Paraguay's maritime and logistics sector, has dramatically upgraded its operational capabilities with the acquisition of the "Veronica V," a state-of-the-art, low-draft tugboat. This vessel, custom-built by the esteemed Dutch shipyard Concordia Damen, promises to significantly enhance transportation efficiency along the critical Paraguay River and its interconnected waterways.
The "Veronica V," a CDS 4115 model, is a powerhouse of river transport technology. With a formidable 5,400 horsepower engine, it measures 41 meters in length and 15.5 meters in width. Its most crucial feature is its shallow draft of only 1.8 meters, a design imperative for navigating the often challenging waters of the Paraguay-Paraná River system. This shallow draft ensures year-round navigability, mitigating the disruptions caused by seasonal water level fluctuations, particularly during dry periods.
This new tugboat is engineered to tow up to 12 barges simultaneously, forming an impressive convoy with a total length of 281 meters and a width of 48 meters. Primarily designated for dry bulk cargo, the "Veronica V" will play a pivotal role in transporting Paraguay's key exports, including soybeans, grains, and minerals. This enhancement in transport capacity and efficiency is expected to significantly boost the nation's export capabilities and stimulate regional economic growth.
Concordia Damen’s Technical Manager, Bert Duijzer, emphasized the significance of this delivery, stating, "The 'Veronica V' exemplifies our commitment to delivering bespoke maritime solutions that meet the unique demands of river transportation in South America. We are proud to partner with Hirona S.A. - Rio Sur Transport and Logistics in advancing Paraguay's river transport infrastructure."
Hirona S.A. - Rio Sur Transport and Logistics, in a strategic move to reinforce its market position, aims to leverage the "Veronica V" to provide more reliable and efficient logistics services. This acquisition underscores the company's commitment to innovation and operational excellence, ensuring that Paraguay's vital river trade continues to thrive.
