Modern Chuwini Market to Boost Zanzibar's Economy, Says CCM Official

DAR ES SALAAM – Amos Makalla, the Ideology, Publicity and Training Secretary for the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, has lauded the modern Chuwini Market project in Zanzibar, predicting it will bring significant economic transformation to the region.
Makalla made the remarks during a tour of the project yesterday, part of a six-region inspection visit in Zanzibar. The Chuwini Market is projected to be larger than Dar es Salaam’s Kariakoo Market, accommodating over 4,000 traders compared to Kariakoo’s capacity of 3,000 to 3,500.
He praised the market’s innovative design, which includes an integrated bus terminal, highlighting its potential to stimulate commercial activity.
Makalla commended the collaborative leadership of Presidents Samia Suluhu Hassan and Dr. Hussein Mwinyi in driving development initiatives.
"Seeing this impressive modern market firsthand reinforces why the CCM extraordinary meeting endorsed Dr. Samia and Dr. Mwinyi as presidential candidates for this year's General Election," Makalla stated. "A remarkable transformation has taken place here, from a rice paddy to a modern market. Those who doubted should come and see the completed work – seeing is believing."
