Seoul, South Korea – The Korea Highway Corporation has been providing free towing services to drivers whose vehicles break down on expressways. According to the insurance industry, drivers can request towing to the nearest safe area by calling the corporation's call center or using the highway traffic information smart app.
Emergency Evacuation Alert System
To prevent secondary accidents caused by vehicles stopped on expressways due to breakdowns or accidents, the government, in collaboration with the insurance industry, operates an "emergency evacuation alert system" that provides rapid evacuation guidance (via phone and SMS). This system sends evacuation alerts to any vehicle at risk of causing a secondary accident, regardless of whether the vehicle has a highway pass or the type of insurance it carries. Recipients of these alerts are advised to promptly move their vehicles to a safe location to prevent casualties and property damage.
Fault Ratio Information Portal
For drivers involved in accidents during holidays, the Insurance Association of Korea operates a "fault ratio information portal" that provides guidelines for determining the degree of fault in traffic accidents. The portal offers a user-friendly interface with visuals and diagrams to explain fault ratios, and users can also consult with experts.
Dispute Resolution
If parties cannot agree on a fault ratio, they can request a review from the Insurance Association of Korea's "Fault Ratio Dispute Review Committee" through their insurance company. The association also provides free consultations on fault ratio-related matters through online and phone services.
Free Insurance Consultations
To enhance consumer understanding of property insurance, the Insurance Association of Korea operates a property insurance consultation center that offers free consultations from lawyers and insurance adjusters. The center provides convenient services such as phone, KakaoTalk, and online consultations.
