Seoul, Korea – SK Hynix, a leading global semiconductor company, is riding a wave of optimism as analysts raise their target prices on the back of robust AI demand and a stellar fourth-quarter earnings report.
The company reported record-breaking revenue and operating profit for the year ended December 31, driven primarily by the strong performance of its High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products, which are crucial for AI applications. HBM sales accounted for a significant portion of the company's total DRAM revenue.
Analysts are bullish on SK Hynix's prospects, citing the continued growth of the AI market and the company's dominant position in the HBM market. The consensus forecast for SK Hynix's 2023 revenue and operating profit suggests a substantial increase compared to the previous year.
"SK Hynix's strong performance is a testament to its ability to capitalize on the growing demand for AI," said Kim Dong-won, a research analyst at KB Securities. "The company's dominant position in the HBM market, coupled with the expected ramp-up of HBM3E 12-stack production, positions it for continued growth."
While the first quarter is typically a seasonally weak period for the semiconductor industry, analysts expect SK Hynix to maintain its momentum throughout the year. However, they cautioned that temporary factors such as inventory adjustments and the transition to HBM3E could impact short-term earnings.
