China’s online public opinion manipulation goes beyond Korea

[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  Recently, the reality of online public opinion manipulation originating from China has been revealed, raising both shock and serious concern. Beyond simple competition, China is conducting systematic operations to undermine Korea's major industries, promote social division, and even shake up government policies. This is no longer an individual aberration, but part of a meticulous information war carried out at the national level.

Major domestic platforms such as Naver have become the main stage for comment operations originating from China. Negative comments focused on articles about a specific industry are not simply an expression of opinion. It is the result of a carefully planned information strategy. They intentionally undermine the competitiveness of Korea's main industries, such as electric vehicles and e-commerce, and attempt to manipulate people's consumer sentiment. Furthermore, they do not hesitate to instigate regional and gender conflicts and undermine social integration.

China's aggressive behavior goes beyond simple economic interests and reveals its intention to weaken our country's national power and shake its international standing. In particular, it has a strategic goal of neutralizing our country's high-tech industrial competitiveness and hindering national development by undermining public trust in government policies.

In the face of this serious situation, we can no longer stand by. The government, as well as businesses and civil society, must work together to combat China's online operations.

The government's role: We must thoroughly investigate the forces behind the Chinese comment operation, show a strong will to hold them accountable, prevent the spread of online false information, and establish a defense system against cyber attacks.

Cooperation with the international community: We must cooperate with the international community to create a fair competitive environment in cyberspace.

Role of companies: They must block the spread of false information based on their own technological capabilities, create healthy online communities, recognize corporate social responsibility, and actively participate in issues related to national security.

Role of civil society: We must critically analyze online information, try not to be deceived by false information, actively participate in forming a healthy online culture, and communicate with other citizens.

China's manipulation of online public opinion is a serious problem that threatens the safety and development of our society. An active response from the government, businesses, and civil society is urgently needed. We must all work hard to protect Korea's digital sovereignty and create a healthy online community.
