ANAHEIM, CA – Hyundai Motor Company is making a significant push into the burgeoning North American zero-emission commercial transportation sector with the unveiling of its latest innovation, the 'New XCIENT Hydrogen Electric Truck.' The official launch took place at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2025, a premier industry event held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California from April 28th to May 1st.

The ACT Expo serves as a crucial platform for global leaders in clean commercial vehicles, energy providers, component manufacturers, and infrastructure developers to converge and exchange insights on cutting-edge technologies, evolving policies, essential infrastructure, and prevailing industry trends in sustainable transportation. Hyundai has been a consistent participant since 2022, underscoring its commitment to this rapidly evolving landscape.

The 'New XCIENT Hydrogen Electric Truck' represents a substantial leap forward in Hyundai's hydrogen technology. The vehicle boasts a significantly enhanced hydrogen fuel cell system, delivering increased power output for demanding logistical operations. Safety has been paramount in the redesign, with the integration of state-of-the-art Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, which helps prevent potential front-end collisions, and Lane Departure Warning, alerting drivers to unintentional lane drifts, thereby significantly bolstering overall safety for drivers and other road users.

Inside the cabin, Hyundai has focused on driver comfort and information accessibility. The new model features an expanded 12.3-inch digital cluster, providing drivers with critical vehicle data in a clear and intuitive format. Complementing this is the next-generation connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) infotainment system, also displayed on a large 12.3-inch screen, offering advanced connectivity and entertainment features. Recognizing the unique demands of commercial transportation, Hyundai has incorporated a specialized commercial vehicle navigation system that provides real-time alerts regarding road restrictions, such as height or weight limitations, ensuring efficient and compliant route planning.

Beyond the vehicle itself, Hyundai is addressing a critical aspect of the hydrogen ecosystem: refueling infrastructure. The company announced its strategic plan to operate 'HTWO Energy,' a comprehensive new energy business platform designed to support both hydrogen and electric vehicle charging. This initiative signals Hyundai's understanding that a robust and accessible refueling network is essential for the widespread adoption of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.

A cornerstone of this infrastructure development is the planned construction of 'HTWO Energy Savannah,' a large-scale, integrated hydrogen and electric charging station specifically catering to commercial vehicles. This strategically located facility will be situated near Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), the company's new state-of-the-art electric vehicle and battery manufacturing plant currently under construction in Georgia. This co-location highlights Hyundai's integrated approach to sustainable mobility, encompassing both vehicle production and essential refueling infrastructure.

The HTWO Energy Savannah facility is projected to have a significant hydrogen production and charging capacity of 1,200 kilograms per day. This substantial capacity underscores Hyundai's commitment to providing reliable and efficient refueling solutions for its hydrogen truck fleet and potentially other fuel cell vehicles in the region. This initiative directly addresses a key barrier to hydrogen vehicle adoption – the limited availability of refueling stations – and demonstrates Hyundai's proactive approach to building a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem in North America.

Hyundai's aggressive strategy in North America reflects the growing momentum behind hydrogen as a viable fuel source for heavy-duty transportation. With increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the need for long-range, fast-refueling solutions for logistics and freight, hydrogen fuel cell technology is gaining traction as a compelling alternative to traditional diesel powertrains and battery-electric solutions for certain applications.

By introducing a technologically advanced hydrogen truck and simultaneously investing in crucial refueling infrastructure, Hyundai is positioning itself as a key player in the transformation of the North American commercial transportation landscape towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. The success of the 'New XCIENT Hydrogen Electric Truck' and the HTWO Energy initiative will be closely watched by industry stakeholders as the market for zero-emission commercial vehicles continues to evolve.
