ANDONG, SOUTH KOREA – Sangji University and the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA) have entered into a significant partnership aimed at nurturing global talent and strengthening the interconnectedness of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), overseas Korean businesspeople (Hansang), and the broader Korean diaspora. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was officially signed on April 28th at the Andong International Convention Center, marking a commitment to collaborative initiatives in culture, education, research, and economic development.

The agreement underscores a shared vision to cultivate a robust global network leveraging the burgeoning influence of Hallyu and the established economic power of the Hansang community. By fostering stronger ties with the global Korean diaspora, both Sangji University and World-OKTA aim to empower the next generation of leaders to thrive in the international arena.

Key areas of cooperation outlined in the MOU include the mutual exchange of information pertaining to educational programs, joint research endeavors, and international exchange opportunities for students and faculty. The partnership will also focus on collaborative research projects centered on Hallyu, the history and impact of Hansang, and the evolving dynamics of Korean communities worldwide.

Furthermore, Sangji University and World-OKTA have pledged to jointly develop and support programs designed to foster entrepreneurship, enhance employability, and provide relevant educational resources. This will involve leveraging World-OKTA’s extensive global network of business leaders to provide mentorship, internship opportunities, and insights into international markets for Sangji University students. The two organizations also plan to co-host conferences and events that bring together academics, business professionals, and members of the Korean diaspora.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sangji University will take the lead in developing and implementing educational and research programs tailored to a global audience, as well as facilitating international exchange activities. World-OKTA, with its vast network and expertise in international trade and business, will contribute significantly to supporting global entrepreneurship and employment prospects for Sangji graduates, while also working to invigorate regional economies through its connections.

Established in 1981, World-OKTA stands as a pivotal organization within the global Korean community. With a presence in 70 countries and a network encompassing 151 chapters, the federation boasts over 7,000 CEOs and 21,000 next-generation business leaders. World-OKTA plays a crucial role in promoting the economic development of South Korea, facilitating international trade, and supporting the global expansion of Korean businesses. The organization also prioritizes fostering camaraderie and strengthening networks among its members, with the ultimate goal of realizing a cohesive global Korean economic community.

Sangji University, recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and community engagement, views this partnership as a strategic step towards enhancing its global footprint and producing graduates equipped to navigate the complexities of the international landscape. By collaborating with a prominent organization like World-OKTA, the university aims to become a vital link connecting South Korea with the global Korean network, leveraging the cultural appeal of Hallyu and the economic dynamism of the Hansang community.

This collaboration is anticipated to create significant opportunities for Sangji University students, providing them with invaluable exposure to international business practices and potential career pathways within the global Korean network. Moreover, the joint research initiatives are expected to contribute valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of Korean culture and business on a global scale. The partnership between Sangji University and World-OKTA signifies a concerted effort to harness the collective strength of Korea’s cultural influence and its global business community to cultivate future leaders and foster stronger international ties.
