[Global Economic Times] In celebration of Chuseok, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced the ‘Chuseok holiday product supply and demand stabilization measures’, which include holding the largest discount event ever and expanding the supply of holiday goods in order to promote the consumption of domestic marine products and lower shopping cart prices during Chuseok.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has already been releasing government stockpiled fishery products from the 19th and supplying them to the market in large quantities to stabilize the prices of fishery products in preparation for increased demand during the holidays. In addition, by investing the budget for the largest holiday discount event ever, we are holding various discount events such as the Korea Fisheries Festival and selling domestic seafood at up to 60% discount.

This year's Chuseok, the supply of government-stocked seafood was expanded by about 10% compared to the previous year to stabilize consumer prices. We plan to supply a total of 12,560 tons of six major water products, including pollack, mackerel, cutlassfish, and sea bream, to the market.

The government-stocked marine products can be purchased at a discount of up to 45% compared to the market price at traditional markets and marts nationwide. In addition, for consumer convenience, we plan to provide some of the quantity by processing it in the form of ceremonial items such as dried pollack and dried fish.

‘Korea Fisheries Festival – Chuseok Special Exhibition’ is being held at 42 supermarkets and online malls across the country. This event will be held for up to 13 types of marine products* that are highly preferred by consumers and require consumption promotion, including popular fish species (pollock, mackerel, cutlassfish, squid, sea bream, dried anchovies, etc.) and abalone, and offer marine products at a discount of up to 60%. You can purchase it.

The ‘Traditional Market Onnuri Gift Certificate Refund Event’, which provides an Onnuri gift certificate refund of up to 30% of the purchase of domestic seafood at a traditional market up to 20,000 won per person, will be held in 114 markets across the country starting September 9.

Starting September 5, we plan to issue ‘mobile gift certificates exclusively for seafood’ with a 20% discount every Thursday (10:00 and 16:00). In particular, during this Chuseok period, the issuance size was increased five times compared to usual (from 1 billion won to 5 billion won per share) to improve people's livelihood and economic vitality.

Consumers who wish to purchase can install the ‘Beeple Pay App’, register as a member, and purchase. In the first week of September (9/5 10:00, 16:00), it will be operated in a pre-opening system for consumers aged 65 or older.

We also prepared a ‘Seafood Gift Set’ that can be purchased at a low price during the Chuseok period. It consists mainly of items that are commonly used for ceremonial purposes, such as sea bass and cutlassfish, and items that need to promote consumption, such as abalone. The price will be lowered by up to half, focusing on the Suhyup Online Mall, and will be sold at a lower price.

In addition, we plan to operate a ‘Seafood Supply and Demand Stability Task Force’ to intensively manage prices of items that are concerned about price increases during the holidays, and to respond preemptively by conducting daily price monitoring and on-site inspections centered on ministers and vice ministers.

Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyeong said, “There are many people worried about rising prices, and we have decided to hold the largest discount event ever to ease the burden on consumers during Chuseok, when seafood consumption begins in earnest.” He added, “Around the holiday, traditional markets and supermarkets are “We hope that you can purchase our seafood at a good price, enjoy it with your whole family, and also use it to give as gifts to people you appreciate.”
