Madrid, Spain – In a thrilling encounter at the Santiago Bernabéu, Jude Bellingham's dramatic late goal secured a 3-2 victory for Real Madrid against a resilient Manchester City side in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 playoffs. The win gives the Spanish giants a crucial advantage heading into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams trading blows throughout the 90 minutes. Man City struck first in the 19th minute when Erling Haaland capitalized on a well-worked play, chesting down a floated pass from Jack Grealish before firing a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper.

Real Madrid fought back in the second half, equalizing in the 60th minute thanks to an unfortunate deflection off Kylian Mbappé's shin from a Dani Ceballos pass. However, Man City quickly regained their lead in the 80th minute with a penalty from Haaland.

The drama continued as Real Madrid substitute Brahim Diaz leveled the score once again in the 86th minute, pouncing on a parried shot from Vinicius Junior. With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Bellingham stepped up in the dying moments, meeting a loose ball in the box and calmly slotting it home with his right foot.

Bellingham's goal sparked jubilant scenes at the Bernabéu as the home crowd erupted in celebration. The young English midfielder, who has been in sensational form since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund, continued his impressive streak, scoring his 11th goal of the season.

"It was a tough game against a strong opponent," said Bellingham after the match. "We showed great character to come back from behind twice, and I'm delighted to have scored the winning goal. But it's only halftime, and we know we have a difficult task ahead of us at the Etihad."

The tie is far from over, with Man City possessing a formidable home record. However, Real Madrid's victory gives them a vital edge as they aim to defend their Champions League title.

In other playoff matches, Paris Saint-Germain secured a comfortable 3-0 win against Brest, with Ousmane Dembélé bagging a brace. Lee Kang-in came on as a substitute for PSG but was unable to make an impact on the scoreline.

The second leg of the playoffs will take place next week, with the remaining teams vying for a place in the round of 16.
