Asunción, Paraguay - Paraguay is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares to host the FIFA Congress on May 15, 2025, in its capital city, Asunción. The event is expected to draw over 2,000 football leaders from FIFA member associations and continental confederations, injecting vitality into Paraguayan football and elevating the nation's global standing.

Alejandra Duarte Albospino, Vice Minister of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic), emphasized the FIFA Congress as a prime opportunity to strengthen Paraguay's national brand. "This event is a fantastic opportunity to reinforce our national brand with the message 'Energy That Connects'," she stated. "The collaboration of all government entities, including Mitic, the National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur), the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (Dinac), the Office of the President, the Investment and Export Promotion Agency (Rediex), and the Immigration Office, is essential for a successful hosting," she added, highlighting the need for a unified and strong national image on the international stage.

Visitors arriving at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport can expect to immediately feel Paraguay's vibrant energy, thanks to the colors of the national flag and the "Good Host" program spearheaded by Senatur. "Paraguay breathes and lives football," Duarte Albospino affirmed. "It is our most beloved sport, closely followed by rally racing, which will shine in the World Rally Championship (WRC) to be held this August."

She further noted that WRC organizing committee members were captivated not only by Paraguay's iconic red soil but also by its rich culinary scene, young population, dynamic culture, and, above all, the warm hospitality of its people. As the home of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), Paraguay boasts a deep history and passion for football, a background that likely played a significant role in its selection as the host for the FIFA Congress.

The FIFA Congress is projected to generate an economic impact exceeding $25 million (approximately 34 billion Korean Won) across various sectors, including accommodation, catering, transportation, tourism, and commerce. Notably, infrastructure projects led by CONMEBOL are creating thousands of jobs, with over 70% of construction workers involved in these development initiatives. Through hosting the FIFA Congress, Paraguay is poised to solidify its position as a central hub for world football, marking a historic moment for the nation.

Beyond the formal meetings, the FIFA Congress serves as a crucial platform for showcasing the host country's culture and allure to a global audience. Paraguay intends to leverage this opportunity to actively promote its rich natural environment, unique cultural heritage, and the warmth of its people to the international community. The "Good Host" program, in particular, aims to create a positive first impression for visitors, potentially leading to increased international interest and tourism in Paraguay.

Furthermore, the FIFA Congress period may see the organization of various cultural events and exhibitions highlighting the history and achievements of Paraguayan football. This would provide an opportunity for Paraguayan citizens to honor their football heroes and reaffirm their passion for the sport. Additionally, interactions with FIFA officials could foster new ideas for the development of Paraguayan football and establish international cooperation networks.

Some analysts suggest that hosting the FIFA Congress will have positive ripple effects across Paraguayan society. Successfully managing a large-scale international event can demonstrate the nation's administrative capabilities and infrastructure standards on a global level, potentially attracting other international events in the future. Moreover, the collaborative spirit among government agencies in preparing for the FIFA Congress could contribute to enhancing the efficiency of the national governance system.

Paraguay, as the former headquarters of CONMEBOL, has historically played a central role in South American football, and hosting the FIFA Congress is expected to further solidify this position. With its fervent passion for football and rich history in the sport, Paraguay aims to successfully host the FIFA Congress, fostering national pride, boosting its economy, and strengthening its standing in the international community.

In conclusion, the 2025 FIFA Congress in Paraguay is more than just an international football event; it represents a significant opportunity to elevate Paraguay's national brand value and drive economic growth. With the active participation and cooperation of the government, relevant institutions, and the people, the successful conclusion of this FIFA Congress is highly anticipated, paving the way for Paraguay to emerge as an even more prominent nation on the global stage.
