The "6223 Future Forum," a private policy platform seeking mid-to-long-term future strategies for South Korea, has introduced "Climate Intelligence" as a new survival strategy in the era of climate crisis and has begun developing national response measures.
On the 3rd, the 6223 Future Forum held its 9th Symposium and General Assembly at the El Tower Andante Hall in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. Attended by approximately 70 leaders from various sectors—including former cabinet ministers, CEOs, and scholars—the event was organized to discuss policy alternatives for South Korea’s sustainable growth amidst a rapidly changing global environment.
Climate Intelligence: Moving Beyond Simple Information to Industrial Value
Cho Seok-joon, the former Administrator of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), took the stage as the keynote speaker, delivering a compelling presentation on "Climate Intelligence and Space-Time Creation Strategies." Cho redefined the climate crisis not merely as a disaster, but as a new industrial opportunity and a core indicator of national competitiveness.
"While past meteorological information was limited to simple observation and forecasting, we have now entered the era of 'Climate Intelligence,' where vast amounts of climate data are integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to derive sophisticated insights," Cho diagnosed. He emphasized that since climate change is exertive a substantial influence on all industries—including agriculture, energy, logistics, and insurance—the ability to precisely predict and utilize this data will determine future wealth.
Cho further suggested, "Utilizing climate intelligence enables strategies for creating new space-time dimensions that transcend physical limitations." He urged that establishing climate data infrastructure and providing policy support are urgent for South Korea to secure global leadership in the era of carbon neutrality.
Expanding Global Networks: Opening Economic Exchanges with Pakistan
The forum also achieved significant results in solidifying international cooperation beyond domestic policy discussions. The 6223 Future Forum signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Pakistan Business Association (PBA), agreeing to strengthen economic exchange and technological cooperation between the two nations.
The MOU focuses on exporting climate response technologies and IT solutions, as well as establishing partnerships between companies in both countries. During the signing ceremony, Mudassar Ali Cheema, Chairman of the PBA, expressed high expectations, stating, "South Korea’s advanced technological prowess and policy experience will serve as a great inspiration for Pakistan's economic development."
Gathering of National Leaders: "A Bridge Designing Korea's Tomorrow"
The event was attended by a large number of prominent figures who have led South Korea, adding weight to the forum's significance. Attendees included key forum committee members such as Lee Chae-pil, former Minister of Employment and Labor; Lee Sang-hyun, Chairman of KCC Information & Communication; and Lee Ki-woo, President of Gukhakwon. Other notable guests included Kim Duck-ryong, Chairman of the World Federation of Korean Association of Commerce; Lee Chae-ik, Chairman of the Korea Shipping Association; and various other leaders from political and business circles.
Through the general assembly, participants shared past achievements and reached a consensus that the forum should strengthen its role as a "private think tank" that proposes effective policies, moving beyond being a simple networking group.
The Vision of 6223 Future Forum: A Purely Private Policy Platform
The 6223 Future Forum is a purely private policy forum where former government officials, entrepreneurs, and academic experts voluntarily gather to research South Korea's mid-to-long-term strategies. A forum official stated, "We aim to serve as a bridge that guides South Korea's direction amidst volatile international situations and technological inflection points. We will continue to seek solutions for national tasks through regular symposia and expand our global networks."
Amidst the double challenges of the climate crisis and economic security, attention is now focused on how the keywords "Climate Intelligence" and "International Cooperation" presented by the 6223 Future Forum will influence future national policy-making.
