LG Electronics Leads Digital Transformation in Spanish Football, Pioneering the Era of Smart Stadiums in Europe

LG Electronics is spearheading the digital transformation (DX) of Spain's professional football league, La Liga, shaping the future of European sports stadiums. LG's advanced technology has been implemented in approximately 80% of the 42 clubs in the Spanish first and second divisions—34 clubs in total—revolutionizing the spectator experience and introducing new revenue generation models.

LG Electronics is providing integrated digital solutions tailored to each stadium's characteristics, including high-performance LED screens, content management systems (CMS), and high-efficiency HVAC systems. These solutions go beyond mere visual changes, maximizing operational efficiency and offering fans an unparalleled immersive experience, thereby serving as a core component in building "smart stadiums."

A prime example is Atlético Madrid's home ground, Cívitas Metropolitano. It features an enormous LED screen spanning over 2,000 square meters, along with a 400-meter-long "sky ribbon board" that provides spectators with a 360-degree immersive visual experience. This setup is hailed as a benchmark for innovation in football stadiums worldwide and stands as a symbol of LG's technological prowess.

Reale Arena, home to Real Sociedad, is another stadium modernized with LG solutions. Over 800 screens, video scoreboards, and ribbon boards have been installed, and LG displays and appliances are also integrated into players' lounges and game rooms, ensuring an optimal environment for both fans and athletes. The club has even replaced equipment in its training facilities with LG products, enhancing overall operational efficiency. Beyond top-tier clubs, LG is actively contributing to the digital transformation of second-division clubs like Sporting Gijón and Elche, focusing on enhancing the fan experience.

LG Electronics' smart stadium solutions are expanding beyond Spain and into other parts of Europe. Wembley Stadium in the UK has adopted the latest digital signage at its entrances and interiors, while Deutsche Bank Park, the home stadium of Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, features a cube-shaped LED screen and upper panels in the central midfield area, captivating spectators. At Jan Breydel Stadium, home to Belgian club Club Brugge, LG screens broadcast live programs, interviews, and discussion shows in high definition, fostering stronger fan engagement.

The smart stadium market is rapidly growing, driven by increased fan participation and improved operational efficiency. Artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) play crucial roles in various areas, including personalized experiences, real-time data analysis, enhanced security, and energy management. In this global trend, LG Electronics is leading the market with differentiated solutions based on its display technology.

Luis Guerra, Head of Special Operations, Partnerships & Institutional Relations at LG Electronics Spain, stated, "LG understands the passion that football ignites and the importance of providing an immersive experience for fans. Through customized solutions tailored to each stadium's unique characteristics, we are transforming stadiums into smarter, more connected, and more engaging spaces."

Through its official sponsorship agreement with La Liga, LG Electronics is increasing brand awareness and expanding its influence in the European market with aggressive sports marketing, including the sponsorship of player Lee Kang-in. By building state-of-the-art digital infrastructure within stadiums, LG is solidifying its position as a strategic partner that goes beyond mere technology supply, actively shaping the future of the sports industry. This creates a win-win model, offering fans a more vivid and innovative viewing experience while providing clubs with new business opportunities and efficient operations.
